Green tea leaves; Able to eat
Most people do not know that green tea leaves are edible.
Now Masatoshi (GM) and I have a tea break, and I am eating used green tea leaves with Ponzu. -Ponzu is dip or sauce made with soy sauce and citrus juice. We, Japanese, usually eat green leafy vegetables with such a sauce like soy sauce. When I bite into them, their texture is similar to boiled spinach and they taste a little bit bitter and tannic. In Japan, we have an old proverb “Good medicine tastes bitter.” Green tea leaves are the same as shown in this proverb. Tea leaves contain various elements like catechins, vitamin and others. Catechins are rich in Antioxidants, so you can get all nutrients directly by eating entire tea leaves. For Masatoshi, Dandan noodles with green tea leaves is his favorite combination. With leaves, noodles in spicy soup taste not too oily. I will try it just in case I have a chance someday…
